![]() ![]() Try to inspect it on a hoist before buying. In paint and bodywork, you get what you pay for! It has one repaint and the amount of work required to remove if necessary will be a factor.įor me the most important part is the underside. Take him the pictures and see if you can get a guesstimate and consider how that fits your budget. It will be difficult to get an estimate from a painter on a car sight unseen, but try, and then add 20% because there are always things that cost more or arent't as good as originally thought which drive the price of labor or parts up. The car appears quite complete and you won't "have to" search for a lot of missing parts, but will have to deal with a few things that aren't working. I am a newbie to the Bullet Birds, but have had restoration experience since the early 70's. I'd appreciate it if you guys could give me some advice on what to look for if we go to look at it, and what would be a decent offer on this car based on it's condition and needs. In another email he also told me that the heater fan doesn't work, but the core is good. I just don't have time to do this one to a show standard too. But my own standards are sort of high, since I do show other cars. If I were to keep it longer term, I would re-do the interior, paint, and probably rebuild the engine. It can certainly be driven as-is, and drives well. Right now the pass side door power window is not working. It needs a new vinyl dash pad and door panels. The front floorboards have normal surface rust (no rust-through) and the trunk is near perfect. There is some rust over the LR wheel well. It was painted in 1990, and is only in fair shape now. It has a brand new battery, and recent new windshield. It has very good tires- oversize radials- not new, but mostly parked since installed. It has all brand new brakes throughout, including drums, master cylinder and power booster. Also in early 90's I replaced the front ball joints, coil springs, and suspension/steering bushings and joints. The trans was rblt in the early 90's by a local shop- good work- it's been many years, but low mileage since then. But the A/C components were removed before I got it. The car originally had A/C, so has interior ducting and grillle. I believe I still have the generator for it, for any true stock officianado. Engine is completely stock exc for a new alternator I installed since the old generators were so weak and unreliable. It idles and runs smoothly, but has somewhat uneven compression (cyls range from 135 to 150 psi). I bought it with approx 80K mi (showing on the odometer). "I have had the car since 1988, occasionally driven, often stored. I emailed the seller and he provided a little more info: Here is a 1962 Bullet Bird I found on craigslist in Seattle for $4,400 OBO. ![]()
